Team Rubrik is back from AWS re:Inforce, and just like the streets of Philadelphia, the event was bustling with energy and excitement. It’s fitting that the city of Philly, with its historical impact forging new ideas, new paths, and even a new country, is where we gathered to discuss the latest innovations in data security, including how to leverage generative AI while keeping sensitive data secure.

Hottest Topics: Cyber Resilience and AI

Throughout keynotes, breakout sessions, and lively conversations in the expo, one thing was clear: data is the fuel in the race of generative AI. So how do organizations harness the power of data to fuel the AI machines without implicating the security of their entire company?

The balance between security and innovation was a challenge we heard from security experts on cloud and data teams. We discussed how it’s not enough to check the boxes of data, cloud, and cyber security solutions individually. Experts need a cohesive strategy to achieve total cyber resilience.

That’s where Rubrik fits in. Combining backup and recovery with cloud storage optimization and data security, Rubrik is able to pinpoint the impacted data in a breach and focus on a speedy recovery without also recovering the malicious intent.

The complete cyber resilience message definitely resonated with attendees, which means we did a lot of demos – and look forward to continuing these conversations in the coming weeks.

CrowdStrike and Rubrik Defend Against Critical Data Attacks

Following the announcement of our partnership with CrowdStrike earlier this year, we took the opportunity at re:Inforce to do a joint presentation on how security teams are expected to defend their organizations against critical cyber attacks: Our team, Eric Chang (Chief Technology Officer) and Matt Bisceglia (Director, Security Sales & GTM), provided data-driven realities of data security while CrowdStrike outlined the threat landscape for organizations.

You didn’t have to be part of the sizable audience on the show floor to understand the stats presented, such as how  98% of organizations report significant data visibility challenges and how 66% of organizations believe their data growth has already outpaced their ability to secure data and manage risk. (Check out the latest Rubrik Zero Labs report “The State of Data Security” for more relevant stats.)

Rubrik Wins AWS Jam “Capture the Flag” for Third Year in a Row

Our fearless leader, Oran Avraham (CTO & Distinguished Engineer), led another all-star team of engineers to their third AWS Jam “Capture the Flag” championship. This year there were actually two separate competitions – and we won both of them!

What’s the secret to their success? Team Rubrik’s deep knowledge of the cloud and vast expertise in cyber security helped them solve this year’s challenges. In fact, some of the challenges involved finding and remediating over-permissive access to specific resources, which is a capability our engineers have developed as part of Rubrik’s Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) solution.

In another challenge, they had to limit the permissions of external entities to AWS EC2 machines based on resource tags. As Oran put it, “That’s our bread and butter!” Rubrik DSPM produces views on permissions and utilizes resource tags, making this challenge quite easy to complete.

We won’t geek out with more details, but we do want to congratulate Team Rubrik: Ofir Tanne, Eyal Hershkovitz, Tamir Aviv, and Oran Avraham.

What’s Next for Security

Before you open the doors to generative AI projects, be completely cyber resilient. If you’re stuck in the limbo between AI innovations and securing your data, let’s talk about your ability to recover from a cyber attack today. Right this second.

It’s time to get out of the majority struggling with their data and instead harness the power of data, securely.

We’ll see you next year! But before then, connect with one of our security experts.
